Garden Design

Garden Design: unnamed-9.jpg

Areas worked in:

I dug out the saw grass, planted aloe, saw grass, mother tongues, filled the wire spirals with rocks, and worked on the ceramic labels.

Learning Reflection:

I believe I learned a lot through this experience. All the tasks that I was assigned was something new, because I didn’t have any previous knowledge of planting or digging up plants. I was very interested in learning how to plant the multiple plants that are in the garden now, because I never really understood how to work through the cycle of digging up the plants, making sure the roots were safe and not struck and cut off. Then I would learn how to plant all the plants making sure I had the necessary soil and water needed for them to sprout and flourish in the new garden. All in all it was a really goo experience, because I’m leaving the class with a new found knowledge of not only planting a garden but also drawing out the plan.

Self Scoring

1) Creative Cycle end in mind

  • I feel that I was on task all of the times that I was working on everything involving the garden, starting with the scale designs to actually planting everything we intended to. I feel that there were some times that I wasn’t working as hard as I could, but I was still getting everything done on time, and making sure I was on time to class, whether it be going straight to the garden and getting down to work, or going to the classroom.

2) Uses and takes care of resources and equipment responsibly (e.g., safety with lab or sports’ equipment, digital  citizenship, care of textbooks, etc…)

  • I think I took care of the equipment well, I made sure not to throw the shovels and other tools we worked with as it could easily injure someone. I think that the resources we were given to work with, I took care of because I wasn’t being rough with anything. I always made sure I was being respectable to the tools, garden, and the people around me while working in the garden.

3) Actively seeks advice and/or feedback to enhance learning; communicates challenges

  • I think there were many points when I asked either Ms. Amy or Mr. Hansen for help if I was confused about something or if I needed help with planting something. I don’t think I complained to much about being in the heat, and I pushed through and made sure I had all the work I was set to do for that day, done. I think the only thing I really complained about was my feet in the sand, cause I’m really cautious about my shoes, so I ended just taking them off in the end and working.

4) Consistently comes to class with all necessary materials; materials (including digital) are organized

  • I think I came to class with the necessary materials that worked for me. I was fine taking off my shoes when we worked in the garden and with leaving my hoodie on. I honestly just compromised and took off my shoes, rolled up my sleeves, and rolled up my pants and I was good to go. I feel that I worked well with others, and I was able to get my job done for each day.

Hippie Van

1) What learning did you bring to this project?  How/where can I see this?

  • The learning that I brought to this project would be outlining objects with real measurements that we would actually use to build the real thing for the production. I think you would be able to see this by looking at the small drawing that has scale dimensions, which would account for the real thing when we start building sets or estimating the amount of paint that we would need for this van.

2) What is something new that you learned? How/where can I see this?

  • Something I learned while doing this project would be by understanding how big designs should be so that we can have everything to scale on the van, as well as estimating how much paint we would need for the designs so we don’t run out before we are done designing and decorating everything for the musical. I think you would be able to see this in the designs that I have put on my van.

3) What learning are you taking forward?  How will you try to apply this?

  • Learning that I’m taking forward from this experience would be coming up with a design quickly and efficiently. The reason I say this is because we had to totally change the concept of our design from hippie to rock. By doing this, my group and I were able to create a cohesive piece on the van in the matter of minutes, and I feel like we have really pulled it off. I would definitely apply this to future projects, and use my quick thinking skills if something happens to go wrong.

Scale Drawing of Subway Station

1) What learning did you bring to this project?  How/where can I see this?

  • The learning that I brought to this project would be how to do measurements of objects and items, which could be easily transferred into real life size. I think would would be able to see this by looking at all the to scale measurements next to all the components on the subway station.

2) What is something new that you learned? How/where can I see this?

  • Something new that I learned would be coming up with a feasible design that would be needed by multiple people to dance on, walk on, or even sit on. I think you would be able to see this from the project as a whole. I was able to keep in mind what was needed for the production of the musical. I feel that by having a lot of the measurements of the objects in the scene, you are able to see that it can withstand people and props.

3) What learning are you taking forward?  How will you try to apply this?

  • The learning that I’m taking forward from this project would be how to build a scene that is user friendly. Also I was able to adapt my old design to my new one according to what the director wants in the end. I will apply this learning to tasks that will be given to us in the future, such as designing other scenes for the play.

Table Model/Drawing

unnamed.jpgunnamed-1.jpg

1) What learning did you bring to this project?  How/where can I see this?

  • The learning that I feel I brought to this project would be how to build a model of an object from the previous task we were given which would be stairs. I think you would be able to see this by the actual construction of the model itself.

2) What is something new that you learned? How/where can I see this?

  • I think the new things I learned when doing this project would be how to make space between two paper plains. I did this by making stumps out of paper an take, 1/2 of an inch high which created the space that I wanted and needed. I think you would be able to see this by looking at the thickness of the table model. I tried to create a quick concise way of making the space.

3) What learning are you taking forward?  How will you try to apply this?

  • The learning that I would be taking forward would be how to construct something out of paper and measurements. I have done this only twice in total now, so I feel like I would be able to further improve my qualities on how to do this in the future if I were to ever make models of objects.

Stair Drawings/ Model

Model

1) What learning did you bring to this project?  How/where can I see this?

  • I think some learning I brought to this project was just working with measurements from previous math classes that I have taken. I think you would be able to see this in the scale drawing of the stairs.

2) What is something new that you learned? How/where can I see this?

  • Something new that I learned would be on how to build the model of the stairs. I haven’t really had any experience with building models of objects with paper. I think you would be able to see that in how I over did some of the tape because I was scared that it wouldn’t hold.

3) What learning are you taking forward?  How will you try to apply this?

  • The learning that I’m taking forward would be how to build models of objects. By doing this task, it really helped me take knowledge towards building the model of the table. I will of course apply what I have learnt about building object towards the next model I would be need to build, which would be the table.

Senses

1) What learning did you bring to this project?  How/where can I see this?

  • I think I was able to bring some background knowledge from other art classes that I have taken in the past. I enjoyed being able to just freely draw something from out own imagination. I think you would be able to see this by the different questions I answered.

2) What is something new that you learned? How/where can I see this?

  • I think something new I learned would be how to draw something I hear. I don’t have to much experience when drawing things like that but I don’t think I did a bad job. I think you would be able to see it in question number 4, because you can clearly see I have no idea what I was doing.

3) What learning are you taking forward?  How will you try to apply this?

  • I think the learning that i’m taking forward would be the creativity that I have practiced with when doing this task. I will try and apply this with future tasks and designs that we need to come up with for the play.
